Polistes metricus wasp at waters edge, from a few summers ago..
The birds shared this birdbath with the wasps fairly well, with only a few minor bug-offs:wink:
I used a tripod set up near the edge here..waited for the wasps to come and go..
F/16, 1/100th, ISO 500, 1D M3, Sigma 150mm + Kenko 1.4x and fill

Nice, Howard. One thing we learned in the pollinator program is how all these need water. This shows that, and it is one the best in-sutu macro shots I've ever seen. I would like to know your EXIF data.

As to your "artist statement", if Albert Einstein said that, it must have been early in his career.

Howard the detail, sharpness and DOF is phenomenal here - and I have to admit - it never occurred to me that wasps would need water. :toast:

Now that's up close and personal, with a critter who's relatives have stung me more than once. Great details and action! I'm fascinated that the eye looks just like the rest of the rest of the head. I also like how you carefully color coordinated your bird bath stone, .

First a rabbit drinking water, and now a wasp drinking water. I don't know that I have ever seen a wasp taking a sip so this is interesting to view. You also have again captured some circle ripples from the drinking critter which adds a nice touch. Good sharp focus on the wasp and a great capture, Howard.

Nice warning colors on this wasp Howard. It seems we have a bunch of non-native polistes taking over the Western US now a days.

Absolutely a first-class image (not surprising from you). Handsome critter and interesting action, well-lit with fantastic detail, all well-composed in a pretty environment. What more could we ask for? (Maybe a colorful reflected sunset with a male cardinal drinking next to the wasp? Nah, they would just be distractions. )

Really nice capture! Sharp and enough DOF for the subject. Would love to know what equipment you used and the exif data too. Thanks for sharing!
