Ice Storm

Winter is ending here, slowly. We had a major ice storm yesterday; trees fell, power lines went down across the roads. I grabbed my camera and went out after dinner. The weather was pretty nasty with freezing rain and 35 mph winds though. The ice pellets hurt when they hit my face. I did get a few photos so it might have been worth it. Here, a n/b tanker train is heading for the hump bridge near Manley, IA. I focussed on the ice on the bridge rail to show it was winter, and let the train blur. I kind of liked the result.

It just seems to me like there are two different things going on here that the mind would prefer to see separately. (1) the cables and ice with an empty track in the background or (2) the train and track without the cables. Either but not both at once.

The ice just adds another layer of complexity that isn't logically linked to the other two.

Excellent!!! I love this one, Kent. What a dynamic composition and great use of DOF. The image has a wonderful tension to it and great sense of depth, with the train running off into the distance. Outstanding. :toast:

I might prefer a tad more depth so that maybe just the front of the engine is in more focus. But, I like this a lot.

Interesting 'approach'
I like the way this turned out, definitely gives one a sense of just how very cold it must've been..
Well done Kent :toast:
