Trillium parviflorum

A rare native trillium of Oregon and Washington. There is a population of these at a local nature preserve where I am privileged to volunteer. The blossom sets directly on the juncture of the three large somewhat mottled leaves.

5DIII, 180 mm f3.5 macro, tripod and cable release. f16, 1/15, iso 500, Av mode with no compensation (exposure reduced in ACR about 2/3 of a stop). Cropped to 9.4 MP from a horizontal original. Processed in CS6 with sharpening and contrast enhancement in Topaz Detail. It was windy enough yesterday that it took quite a few tries to get an unblurred image even in the woods.

Your comments and criticisms are most appreciated.

Thanks for looking,

Very nice image Dennis. I like the BG, Comp and detail including the spider strand from one leaf to the other. Well done.

Excellent perspective & DOF! The BG came out wonderfully as well! Am wondering if it could be brightened a hair...but I do realize it can be very dark in the woods!

Exquisite! The point of focus is perfect for the comp. I'd either crop from the top to exclude the area of beige color or blend it into green. Tra-la! the flower has the stage! I kinda favor the crop over the blend... Really beautiful, Dennis, and a great find.

Beautiful close up with a nice artistic view. I too feel that it's a bit dark, but that's a personal decision. Wow, 1/15s with a breeze...that's the definition of patience.

An interesting comp and a great BG Dennis. Nice job with the different perspective. I thnk overall I could have the photo lightened a bit - and especially the subject.
