Early season Wood Duck

by Claude Dagenais

It was a cold, windy early spring day at the marsh and the ice was not completely out but a dozen or so of these guys came flying in!

Taken at 1/1000s f/8 ISO 560 with a 600 mm f/4 + TC 1.4 on D3X, full frame.

Nice bokeh, Claude. However, I really dig the "hairdo!"

Beautiful duck in a nice pose. Great colours and BG. I'm afraid you have lost detail in both the hot whites and the blacks, but this is a tough exposure. A program like Nik's Viveza would help reclaim detail.
I'd also suggest moving the duck off dead-center to add interest and to allow him room to look to the right.

You caught this Wood Duck at the decisive moment. Looks as if he is posing for the camera. Excellent image.
