Sometimes you are lucky to get a view that appeals to you. This was taken in the evening Sun light at Lalbagh Botanical Garden, Bangalore, India. This plant was frequented by the Pea Blues for nectar even in the evening. I had set up the tripod for this view and waited for one of the Pea Blues and give me a pose.

Canon 6D, Canon 100mm IS USM, ISO 800, F8, 1/160. I had to crop aroud 20% on top and right to get a better composition. I could not avoid the black band on the top as I would lose parallel view of the branch.

I like the diagonal first of all leading to the subject. And then the contrast between the form of the subject and the ;lant with the diffuse bokeh of the background. After that blue hues of the plant flowers and the subject butterfly, but very subtle in terms of value or intensity; relatively monochrome with respect to the extremely vibrant reds, yellows, greens and dymanic range found in the backbround bokeh. And so I think that the subject prevails in both sharpness of focus, but also in its understatement in coolness of color.

Beautiful image, Murali. Excellent job of capturing the Pea Blue against the colorful bg. The bg is gorgeous. :toast:

The colorful background is great and it works well with the relative small size of butterfly. Very well seen.

Hi Murali

A terrific image, personally i would have cropped some off the bottom and the righthand side so the stem of the plant comes out of the bottom left corner, but still a stunning shot, well done.
