Nest Builder

I caught this female red-wigned blackbird with some nesting material alongside the boardwalk at Green Cay wetlands. The bird quickly fled from this branch into its well camouflaged nest.

Nikon D7100 + 300mm f4 + 1.7X TC HH
f/6.7
1/250s
ISO 1000

Photographed using the 1.3X "cropped mode" which means it was an effective 1000mm focal length. Cropped chunks off the sides for a more square comp

Processed in LR4 and CS5 - no noise reduction

Nice one, Luke. I like the setting and the alert pose. :toast:

Nicely composed Luke. The twig splits the frame well and and the bird has a good alert pose with (for me) the grasses in the bird's bill providing the focal point of the image

Love the nesting material, perch, and BG. Do wish the birds feet and legs were sharper, but still a great shot.

Great behavioral shot Luke! I like your comp, and the full frontal POV.
Nice & sharp where it matters, complimentary BG..
Hard to believe no NR @ ISO 1000. There's a small amount of grain visible in the LP, but very minimal..
Well done :toast:
