Early spring greens at a beautiful waterfall in the Columbia River Gorge of Oregon.

This is an image from last week. On my way home from Rowena Crest, I stopped by a few waterfalls in the Gorge to check out the greens. It's still early, but in a few weeks everything should be in full force.

Nikon D800, Nikkor 16-35 f/4, polarizer
2 image hand blend for DOF
0.5 sec at f/16, ISO 50 x2

Thank you for any comments or critiques you have. I'm interested in what you think of the comp. Do you think the falls are too centered? I tried a few crops with less on top, but it seems to throw the balance of the image off.

Please check out the larger version.

Scott, I think this works as presented. I really like the flow of the image from the foreground all the way back to the background falls. I think that there is also enough interest above the falls to justify leaving it in the comp.

I think the composition works really well. I think it has a pleasing unbalanced symmetry, and nice leading line from upper left to lower right. Shutter speed looks great as well. Very well captured. :toast:

Beautiful image Scott. I really like your composition and I like the extra on top. Seems to keep it balanced for me. Water motion is just right and you have to love the early greens out here. Really well done. :toast:

Stunning greens that we don't get around here, it's got an almost luminescence to it. I like your comp as is and definitely would not crop off any of the upper part of the image. If anything the bottom part of the image holds less detail and interest to me. Very well done Scott! :toast:

The centered falls work fine for me here. I think that's because of the green slope that cuts across the lower left corner. The fallen log in the middle of the fall does stand out in a strange way though. It feels more like it's levitating in front of the falls rather than being submerged in the water. If this was mine, I would probably clone it out and pretend it never existed. Excellent work Scott.

What a gorgeous scene Scott, love the lush greens and your exposure on the water is perfect, you presented this pretty little scene beautifully, would not change a thing. Beautiful work. By the way, you picked up some sweet light in the BG.

Nicely done. I really like this. The light in the greenery behind the falls is sweet.

Scott, I find no issue at all with your thoughts on the placement of the falls and quite enjoy this composition as is presented. Amazing and colorful view of this area surrounding the goodly sized cascade too. Wonderful capture.

I visited this falls for the first time when I was out in the gorge two weeks ago. Your take and processing look great!

Very nice Scott. Love the lush greens and how the falls flow from the upper left to the lower right. The log in the water is somewhat distracting, but doesn't take away from the beautiful scenery around it.

Looks great, Scott. Nicely balanced thirds from top to bottom. The lighting in the upper portion is really sweet, so it definitely belongs. I might agree with a crop up from the bottom, but I also like the look of the water as trails on down...

The greens seem to glow and virtually jump off the screen. I like a slight crop from the bottom.
