My you are small!

On our way up to Botswana we usually try to take a stopover at Mokala National Park, just south of Kimberley, South Africa. This time we were fortunate enough to be able to book into the accommodation at Haak-en-Steek waterhole, which is totally private and you get your own private waterhole!
A family group of Rhino came to visit us and this youngster seems to be fascinated by the Tortoise.

The sand really is that red there hence the "red" white Rhino.

That's great. Nice to see that Mokala delivered for you, Ken. I found nearly all the wildlife there to be very skittish, which obviously made for much more difficult photo ops. You nailed this one.

Very nice behavioural shot, Ken. I like how the rhinos look red no doubt due to the reddish soil they wallow in.

Thanks everybody for your kind comments, the red sand here certainly makes your images different.

Max,

Sorry to hear your visit to Mokala was not very productive, we have been 3 times, it is not exactly teeming but we have usually found the animals to be reasonably well behaved apart from the Oryx and Eland who keep up there normal behaviour of running away. If you go again do try to book Haak en Stek

I'm late to comment, but felt it necessary to complement you on this stellar image. Love the simplicity and the punchy colors, and of course the interaction between such dissimilar species. :toast:

Nicely done Ken! I love the reds in this one and the interaction between the juvenile rhino and the clearly unwilling tortoise is really cute.

Joseph,

Thanks very much for your appreciation, some do not understand the overly red feel you get in certain areas of Africa, but it is real
