Northern Shrike

by Claude Dagenais

Gallery: AvianPosted April 25, 201389 views6 comments
These birds migrate from the far north to southern Quebec every year. After the winter we just had, you wonder about their good judgement! Its relative the Loggerhead Shrike is now a rarity in Quebec.

Taken at 1/400s, f/10, ISO 250 with 500mm f/4 + TC 1.7X on D300.
Cropped to about 85% of original.

Simple but very effective. Nice pose and great look at the hooked beak of this tiny raptor-wannabe. .
Good placement in the frame, too.

Very well composed, Claude. I like the minimalistic presentation. They are here too in the winter, but I have only seen one and that too at a distance.
