Hey! Wait for me!

Out after some time off for medical reasons and visiting family. Went to the local nature area early in the morning to see what was happening. Things are green but starting to brown up already. Caught this little, almost yearling, black-tail hurrying to catch up with mom. If mom has a new fawn soon, this guy will probably be out on its own. No catchlight on the eye but does the nose count? Sorry about the white areas top and bottom which is an artifact left from resizing to remove canvas on the left to get the deer out of dead center. I also warmed this slightly, added some fill light to the side of the deer, and sharpened for the web. Comments and critiques are welcomed and very much appreciated.

I like the inclusion of habitat in your photo Peter, the hint of color from the new flowers is attractive and suits the youngster. I also like the darker shaded area in the background that adds interest. Don't miss the catchlight particularly, the nose does count I guess! I'm pondering the age of this deer, looks like a fawn from this year to my guesstimation, but a month or two old??? I could be wrong (happened once in the '90s  )

Thanks for the comments Gary. I appreciate your input. It is last year's fawn. Been tracking it all year. It has the rough coat that is rather distinctive. If you look in my gallery you'll see a couple others with him in it. It's also is the one the did lots of mutual grooming with it's mom. The mom really took good care of it. It has a couple of small bumps on the head which may indicate a buck but until antlers start to form, I'm not really sure.

Thanks for the additional information Peter. Didn't mean to question your age estimate, the deer just looks quite immature and small in this photo from this angle.

Cute Peter! I like the little purple flowers, they add so much to the scene here. Nose only counts if the eye g=has a catch light too IMO. If only this cutie would have faced the other direction so that its body is in full sun light, then you would have had and a catch light and no shadow on the face.
