Just under the gun :). Taken from my kayak yesterday across some mud flats on the CT River near Old Lyme. I have several other shots of the bigger bird, so I think it's a Willet. Did not get a good look at the smaller one, but thinking it was a Sandpiper. I liked this silhouette shot better than the sunlit ones. Nex 6, ISO 100, f/6.3, 1/1600, 50-210 zoom at 204mm. Cropped and sharpened in PSE. Comments always welcome and thanks for viewing.

Very interesting combination of elements in this image, Jim. What I actually like most is the beautiful bokeh on the water near the top of the image. Looks like bubbles floating on the surface. But I also like the rest of the elements. The bird silhouettes are perfectly placed and your DOF choice works great. One suggestion I have is to crop up some from the bottom, making this more of a pano crop. IMO that would look great with the two strong horizontal lines framing the top and bottom of the image.

I like this also (as does Carolyn Derstein).

But here is my suggestion: The subjects are both black, silhouettes, right? I would suggest looking at a crop that minimizes the big black rock on the left, and definitely the dark line at the top.

So this is what I recommend having just actually done it: Do a crop, setting the width to 10 and height to 8. Position that such that you have the top of the crop just at the top of the water with no black showing and over to the right and bottom. The amount of rock showing is then miniman but a good balance, and the big bird is now at the junction of the right and upper rule of thirds lines and I just think this works much better for me in terms of what you are trying to express.

Really cool shot! Can't beat that low angle from the kayak. It puts those beautiful sparkly reflections from the water into good position around the bird. I agree that there is more space on the bottom than you need.

I agree with some of the other comments that the black at the top would be better cropped out, as well as some of the foreground. I don't dislike the rock, but it might be better without (and would be out of the frame with the above crops anyway).

I also enjoy shooting from a kayak.

I don't mind the black , it balances the shot for me. Love the bokeh and the silhouette !
