First post in this gallery. New to serious photography, so still working on technique.
Clearing weeds along a fence and found this stalk buried in the grass. Liked it moxey for surviving.

All help and suggestions really appreciated.

Don: Welcome to the finest Flora gallery on the planet and thanks for becoming a part of our cyber community. Interesting subject - looks like an asparagus spear . I think you did a good job of isolating the subject with your DOF choice. My main suggestion has to do with the BG. The light twig(?) next to the top of the stalk on the left side is a bit of an eye grabber. I would either burn that down or paint some darker color over it to decrease its impact. Nice find and a fine effort. Looking forward to your future participation.>=))>

Welcome to Flora Don. I think you will find the folks here wonderful. Great vision to spot this, and I do like your isolation of subject to environment. I don't know what processing software you have, but I might try cloning out the distracting BG. Great to have you aboard.

Don:

I would like to add my welcome to the Flora gallery. Great find and I like the S curve of this asparagus spear. Guess you can look forward to a nice harvest.

Look forward to seeing more of your post here.

Good use of your DOF, subject stands out well although the similar colors reduce the impact.
We have a large area of these in our garden, they produced well this spring..
I suggest shooting with a darker BG & perhaps a bit closer if possible?
This is the place to learn, no doubt :wavey:
