Coming Storm

--Yading, Shangri La area, China

This beautiful lake is named Five Color Sea, which is right under the Xiannairi Holy peak(6032M),one of the three holy peaks in Yading National Park. This peak is pretty huge. If there's no storm clouds cover it, I might not be able to catch the entire peak into this horizontal scene. This beautiful national park is the sign of Shangri La in the famous book 'Lost Horizon'. Not really easy to get to this beautiful lake, especially in this high-altitude condition. You will breath more rapid and hard to make every single step. When I get there in the morning, the sky was still clear. However, the sky suddenly change and forming storm. You never know what weather gonna be in high-altitude area, but this's also why I like it.

Thanks for any comments.

Weihao: What a fabulous scene and conditions! I think it makes me want to be there but I'm not so sure. I get a little shiver viewing this. Superbly crafted image.>=))>

This is a beautiful scene, and I would have never guessed it was China. The water color is fantastic, and I really like how the reflection fades away as it approaches the near shore. I look forward to viewing more of your work. :toast:

Wonderful image, Weihao. It works very well for me as posted, and I particularly like the blue of the lake and the bit of sunlight against the base of the snowy cliffs.

Beautiful scene very well-captured, it has a very ominous feel to it. The composition is interesting, but I would also like to see a vertical shot from the water's edge, with a polarizer revealing the underwater rocks for foreground. So many possibilities with a scene this beautiful.

Gorgeous alpine scene. Love those low hanging clouds and the beautiful azure tones in the lake. Incredible.

Beautiful alpine scene with wonderful clouds Weihao. Really nice composition and mood. Surprised like others when you said it's in China. Well done.

Dramatic lighting and clouds, and the glacial lake is intense. The peak must be huge, hopefully you managed a shot at some point. What a magical place.

I love the blues of the lake - what an incredible color! The rocky foreground works very well too, as it mimics the sky and mountains. No nits from - great work! Welcome to NPN, too!

Thanks all. It's funny that most people never thought about this place is in China. Actually there's a lot more beautiful mountains and lakes in China, especially in Tibet and Sichuan area.
Thank you Floris, I believe the color of the lake is formed by mineral precipitation and refraction of light. You also can see some network texture in the lake. They were formed by the dead plants. They make the lake more special and beautiful.
