Marsh Wren

Many people view Robins as their first sign of Spring. I don't consider Spring has sprung until the first Marsh Wren starts singing.

They arrived in my area yesterday and I got this shot by standing in my kayak in a nearby marsh - not a recommended technique!

Nikon D300; 200-400 @350; f6.3 @1/1000th; ISO 320; HH; approx. 50% crop.

All comments and suggestions most welcome.

Really nice Tom. Love the comp and the singing pose. You lost a bit of detail from the crop, but there is still enough there to make this work very well for me. Love these little birds. Well done.

Lovely image and pose of this little wren singing away there.Same here in british columbia ,the marsh wrens are the first to arrive and start there search for nesting areas as they perch on bulrushes proclaiming there terrortory for all other wrens in the area to hear.

You hit the bullseye with this shot. Best marsh wren photo of the year. Just love the action you caught of this guy in full song with his cocked up tail. Great perch, exposure, and composition. A perfect BG and what a lovely palette of color tones. Anyone would be proud to have this in the portfolio.

Love the pose, eye, branch, and complimentary BG.The crop doesn't quite hold up in the large version; still, a fine image.

Tom,

Marvelous pose captured very well, I agree that the larger version losses a bit of detail from the crop.

Lovely shot Tom. Gorgeous colours. Nice pose, nice perch and bird shows off really well against the background.

Very cute little bird. If this bird is anything like their cousins the Carolina Wren, these guys do not stay still very long. They are however beautiful singers. The pose especially with the tail action is very nice.

It's hard to imagine a much better image of a marsh wren. You pegged this but I have to admit I'm a little nervous about a DSLR and expensive glass going splash. Standing in a kayak takes courage!
