Wind and water on the edge of this massive lake in Argentina. Massive amounts of housing and hotel development are planned near the shores of this lake behind me, from where I took this shot.

2 images for dynamic range.

5DII, 24-105L, f16, ISO 50, polarizing filter, 3 stop ND, filter, 1/20 and 1/45 second.

Suggestions welcomed as always.

Great job on the blend and timing that crashing wave, Harry. I also love the drama with the clouds; it compliments the wave action perfectly. It looks like you had a very productive trip. :toast:

I agree with the drama in this shot...you have really captured it well Harry!

Foreground water, sky and the crashing waves work quite well together and create a dynamic image. The dynamic range looks really challenging and I think you handled it pretty well, but I would suggest to light up the shadows a tad. Some areas (sky, rocks) have that underexposed look to them.

That is a beautiful scene, Harry! I like the light and wonderful colors you captured here. The big wave splash looks great and I love the clouds. The turquoise colored water in the background really adds a nice extra touch to the scene. Very nice.

Thanks for the comments.
Didl - There is definitely room to open up the shadows, but I'm a bit hesitant as it might remove the strong contrast in lighting I experienced here. Some of the most dramatic lighting I experienced, as those clouds were evil dark but some breaks let the light shoot through. I'll try the FG area, hate to mess with the clouds.

Nick - Amazing what a difference the light hitting the water makes when you compare the transition area. I loved that about the shot too. If you just looked at the lake on a cloudy day or darker conditions, it looks kinda muddy, not the beautiful turquoise we are used to seeing in pictures. The spray looks a tad yellow to me, hard to believe the sun breaking though to backlight would have this effect, but no one has mentioned it so I may leave as is.

Edit - So Didl, I went back and lightened the FG, and the left portion of the sky and I do like it better, so thanks you :wavey:

I removed the yellow cast and think it looks more true to the scene. I just don't remember seeing yellow spray, though the clouds had that tobacco look from the sun behind.

Some crazy light there Harry! Think the splash is a .5s too late as I prefer the motion going up as this seems to have already peaked. Great scene you have there :)

I'm really liking the repost, Harry. Too bad we can't mount the larger version on a repost. But this works fine also. This one I can almost feel the spray hitting me.

Repost does look better. I like the surf action, and especially like the cloud forms on the lhs. Some nice lighting. The wave is dangerously close to my nemesis the 'dandelion wave' but i like this alot over all. :wavey:

VERY dramatic shot, Harry. I like how you portrayed what you saw in all the colors of the water including the glare. The repost is even better. Great suggestions from Didl really paid off.
