We came across this Bare-throated Tiger Heron as it was perched with another above the observation platform at Palo Verde NP. This guy was pretty cooperative as I reposition myself several times in hopes of getting first light on the heron.

Nice capture Charles. Exposure looks good and the detail and colours on the face are super. Very intense expression.

A striking subject. Nice sharpness and good composition given the location. I've no personal experience with this species so can't be sure but the color seems off somehow - how does it compare with field guide images?

Rich-the image was captured at first light just as it struck the subject. I took several samples of the bird for color correction in ACR during post and this was my result.

Charles, this is one very cool bird I have never seen before. I love herons, so this is very cool to see. Looks like you didn't have much direct light to work with, so nice job exposing. I also think the color seems weird. Like Richard, don't know this species, but seems like a blue/green color cast. I just saw your reply...so probably just the color of the bird.

Charles,
A very different looking Heron, nicely captured in "difficult" light

I like this dramatic early light Charles, great job exposing.
Great head turn & pose, really like the common name, and one I'd not seen before.
Well done :toast:
