Rocky Mountain Bighorn

Last fall I was fortunate to spend the afternoon with a small band of bighorn sheep in the alpine country of the Canadian Rockies. At sunset I noticed this young ram foraging toward a slight ridge in front of the sunlit peaks. I thought it would make a nice silhouette if the ram went up on the ridge, and if I could into position in time.

Canon MkIV, 24-105 @ 32mm, ISO 200, f11, 1/250, handheld lying on the gorund, manual spot meter

All your comments and suggestions are very much appreciated.

Very creative Ken! It is so easy to get hung up on getting that full frame shot of a Bighorn, but this photo is equally effective or more in its own way. Love the exposure, perfect for all elements. Masterful photo my friend! :toast:

Interesting POV with the BH being small and in shadow. I like the thinking, but do find the blue in the FG too strong. Keep the richness in the sky, but personally would ease off in the whites of the snow. Very easy to do and under 10 secs too, think it looks better.

Great to see what you come up with when you're just lying around in the Rockies. Great shot Ken, and very nicely composed.

Works real well for me, Ken. A good composition. The blue snow doesn't bother me as that is what I would expect in that particular situation. Certainly a great photo setting the habitat for the BH. I would have liked a head turn which would have given an idea of his horns and their curl but you had not control over than. All in all, well done.

The silhouette is very nice and the ridge behind very imposing. I like the view, but the shadows at the bottom feel a bit too blue even with that intense blue sky.

Ken, I keep getting drawn back into this one. I think it's great, though for some reason I want to see a slight crop at bottom. It's almost as though the dark splotches of ground keep drawing my eye downward to that small point (rather than up, where the "action" is), so I keep wanting to see that point snipped off.
