Broken Hill

Clouds were looking crazy on this day. I thought I was in for an epic sunset but the clouds were gone shortly after taking this which seemed to be happening a lot.

I was experimenting with focus blending when I took this so I manually focused four shots at F/11 along the ridge using live view and took one more shot for the sky.

The ridge line is a terrific leading line and the sky and clouds are equally wonderful. The butte with it's trees make a fine focal point. The butte and the bit of green shore to its left seem dark relative to the rest of the foreground, but that could be my prejudice knowing that this is a blended image. It's a great scene and the front-to-back sharpness works very well. I could also see cropping out the bottom 20%, which would give the ridge have a stronger role.

Wonderful clarity and detail...your experiment was a success! Where is Broken Hill? Lovely curving line along the ridge leading back to the trees. There is something that looks a little unreal about it, but it is still gorgeous!

Those clouds look pearlescent Glen, very cool. Nice blend as well, sharp front to back! I could see Mark's crop suggestion, but it works for me as is. The foreground nicely mirrors the diagonals in the clouds.

Terrific use of leading lines, and think your focus blending worked perfectly. I seem to remember seeing the formation at Torrey Pines in Del Mar, or very similar landscapes. I always do a bit of walking there when I visit my cousin in Del Mar. What a beautiful place out there. I usually get breakfast at the Americana, don't know if you've ever been there but very tasty!

You couldn't have got a better leading line Glenn, love the textures in the amazing looking landscape. Pretty nifty sky too.
