Bonaparte's Gull

Canon 1D-X, 300mm x 2.0 TC, handheld
f11, 1/640, ISO2000

Low, flat light under overcast skies. It's tough times for these birds. They forage on emerging insects. At 33 degrees, there aren't any.

50% of full frame, slight sharpening.

C & C, please. Thanks for looking.

Hi Jim this looks really soft in both version????

If it wasn't such a big crop I might have suggested a 16 x 9 and to lose some of the distracting habitat. Although it sets the scene, I think the reflection would do the same job.

A sweet-faced gull! I didn't know they fed on insects! Hope things warm up for it soon. Sharon

Looks a bit soft to me and a lot of distraction on the top, but I still like it. Nice reflection.

A bit soft, probably attributable to the substantial crop. still a good look at the bird, and the back story wouldn't be as believable without the presence of the ice/snow bank. What is important to me is that the photograph tells a story, along with yor narrative.
