While I like the concept and composition, I would suggest a slight levels adjustment in which you would move the center slider only to the left so that it is under the maximum for the main, broad portion of the histogram (discounting the clipped black portion on the extreme left).. I think this brings more important detail out of the shadow including the edges of the leaves in the otherwise negative space on the right and under the flower.
I like the fluidity of the forms and lines and the texture that the B&W treatment accents.

The center flower has so much to like...the range of shadows and light is wonderful...the details and sharpness... the leopard spots and textures... uoopa! I would crop to portrait...and tease a little more brightness and contrast targeting as much range of tonality from the flowers ... Nice shot!

Thanks for comments and advice John and Ken. I have done so little B&W and hope to do more. Levels and curves is still more of a mystery than it should be. I'll work on it.

Very neat, Charlie. I like the B&W in this-it's so unexpected, but the textures really pop this way. Excellent composition.
Well done,

In B & W, tonality and detail are everything. What kind of mood were you trying to create here? I like what you have done. I just am not sure why you gave it this particular treatment. I think I agree with John as well.

Phil, as to mood, I don't know. I don't overthink my photos. I fool until I like it and post it. I'm totally self taught and want to remain that way for the duration.

Like this a lot, Charlie. The detail is so crisp and the variety of tones ( especially evident in the larger version ) is excellent. I love especially the wisps of leaves in the bg that the large version again brings out so well. I guess this is one of those images that suffers from needing to be writ large - the bigger version shows it to be absolutely top notch.
