Another dark one. It was getting pretty dark, but the color was still there. Do the dark colors and lines work in the simplistic way I'm seeing it? Thanks for your thoughts! See the large one too.

D200,
18-70mm,
15sec, F/8

Thanks,
Chris

P.S. I'm off to the North Coast for the Redwoods end of the week. I'm putting a post it note on my forehead that says "shoot some verticals too dummy" So, hopefully I can post some verts too later.

A spectacularly beautiful scene, soft with detail where it works.

The mist adds a lovely mood to it, and the soft colors make it sing. Beauty.

Superb, Chris. I think the darker presentation works perfectly, conveying the light and mood so very well. The pastel colors of the beach are beautiful. Have a blast exploring the redwoods.

Beautiful image catching the atmosphere very well. A minor comment on the compostion though. The horizon is almost in the middle of the picture and I think having more (or less) of the foreground would make the picture even stronger. But for the rest: great image.

Beautifully subtle. The image feels "quiet" as if there was not a soul around for miles. I think you could try a brighter version and compare the two as well. I believe it would work bright and dark.

A beautiful and tranquil scene. In addition to the softness in the clouds, I am also enjoying the water line along the dark sand.

You asked if the simplicity works. The word that comes to mind for me is purity.

The mood is perfect, really reflects the time of day. Maybe try a slight shadow adjustment to lighten those areas, but this is fine. It feels like it is slightly tipped CCW, maybe my imagination and tough to tell with this size.

I like it Chris. I like the moodiness of the image and the dark does not bother me at all but adds to the feel of the image.

Amazing composition for me, Chris. I admire the subtle transition of colors from bottom to sky. Especially the lower part has an almost abstract character to me. Your exposure and processing is spot on to my eye, and I also appreciate the subtle and natural colors a lot.

Gorgeous Chris! A wonderful coastal composition and I think you've quite accurately captured and processed the colors. And I think you've handled the darkness perfectly. Nothing it seems has gone pure black, so the contrasts here seem just perfect to me.

Have fun in the redwoods!

Chris, this is a very strong sun-downer type beach-scape IMO. Composition is excellent along with the contrasting colors, both warm and cool, provide for a wonderful capture here....

......
I'm sure we all go through these back & forth of images in our catalog. Just the opposite I found I shot a lot of verticals over time, once I weened away to the horizontals I hardly shoot verticals anymore. Not a right or wrong thing, just prefer the format better myself......

I think it's beautiful just the way it is. As far as shooting verticals goes, I've owned my new camera for over a year now, and have yet to turn it vertical.
