Tired Buck

I came across this buck one morning at the local nature preserve. First time I'd seen a deer actually asleep while I was close by. He wasn't in deep sleep as he did wake up a few times, look around, then put his head down. I thought he was just exhausted from the rut which was just ending. The first image is the standard that the camera took while the larger is a heavy crop to show the detail a bit better.

Yes, the rut must be exhausting. . .but so must be carrying those huge antlers around! No wonder he is resting with one side of the antlers on the ground. Good handling of the variety of exposures in this image. I think I would crop a bit from the left and bottom to help draw attention to the deer. . .but also good as, is showing larger context. Larger version was helpful to be able to see more details. Nice capture, Peter.

Good shot Peter! For me the larger image is the one that works best. Thanks for sharing.

This is probably a rare "catch" so congratulations on getting it. Yup, like the crop better too. Find the two diagonal trees drawing my attention away from the subject somewhat. Nice overall exposure though.
