Lancaster Falls

A hike in the Columbia River Gorge, OR, rewarded me with this view of the base of the falls and the splash pool. The main cascade could not hold all the water, as trickles fell all along face of the cliff.

Panasonic Lumix GH-3, Lumix 35-100/2.8, tripod; f16, 1/6, ISO 400.

Thanks for viewing, and if time permits, offering a comment.

Nice comp Catherine, I really like the curve of the water. What falls are these?

I like the bright green of the moss against the otherwise monochrome background and bimodal luminance contrast of the white water and the dark sea and rock. The shutter appears just right to capture the falls, and I like the left-to-right flow of the image overall.

A very pleasing composition with nice contrasting colors. I like the way you have captured the energy of the water flow. Nice job! Chet

Well done! I like the foreground framing and the pond that trails off to the upper rt corner... Smartly composed! Got a lot of fireworks in the water too...good shutter selection.

Hi Catherine, Nice motion with the falls and I like the contrast with the green moss against the rock and water. Looks like a pretty cool place.

I agree with all of the preceding comments, but as I look at the image I am wishing I could see more of the falls, but that might not have been possible.

Hi, Richard. Thanks for your comment. Yes, I understand what you mean about the point of view. I do have other comps of this falls. However, I didn't have a wide angle lens with me. With the hiking, I was traveling light…

Really cool and unique perspective on the falls - emphasizes the shapes and textures.

Catherine,

I'm really liking the left half of the image, with the depth created by the foreground rock/moss against the backdrop of the falls. The other half looks like it's raining, but from your description, that's just more water bouncing off the rocks as it cascades down?

The more I look at it, the more the splashy pool and the receding greens the more I think this is a complete image rather than one of two halves. You did well with this one.

Isn't the Gorge a wonder!? Great job on this more intimate approach.

Great exposure/comp with the diagonal aspect and mossy rock FG left corner.
So this is what they call a 'splash' pool? Sure could use a dip about now
Well done! :toast:
