Another shot of the same bird as my last post. I like the nice view of the plumage on this one and the gold tones of the gorget. I changed bodies to the 7D in the middle of the session to take advantage of the crop factor.

7D, 500mm f4 ISL + 1.4TC, Black Widow on RRS legs, f9, 1/1000, iso 500, Av mode with -1/3 stop compensation. Cropped to just shy of 9MP and processed in CS6. Taken May 24th at 3:36 pm under filtered sun.

Your comments and criticisms are most appreciated.

Thanks for looking,

Dennis,
I have never seen one of these, what remarkable colours they are.
I wonder if a little lightening may make it even better?

Dennis, what a gorgeous little bird.
I prefer this to your previous post as the amazing colours are much more evident. Clean simple composition and a background that lets the subject shine.

Good pose to display the iridescent gorget colors and I also think it could be a little brighter. Nice job in getting this, way to go.

A simple image with nothing to compete with the bird. Wonderful colors and the detail is superb.

Love those colors Dennis and that creamy background. I'd like to see a little more light in the eye and under the bill, but a fine shot as posted.

Wow Dennis, great shot with lots of great detail of the feathers. I love the head turn too and uncluttered BG. Nice work!

I just haven't succeeded in photographing one this year! I'd lighten it a bit, too - I like it a lot otherwise.

Nice image Dennis. I also might lighten it a bit if it were mine. I do wish there was a touch more catchlight, but still a very fine image.

Colors are great, nice background. This one is just screaming for a bit of fill flash to help light up the darkest shadows and provide a small catchlight.
