Out On A Limb

I recently moved to Silver Gate, Montana, just outside Yellowstone's northeast entrance. Being surrounded by rugged peaks and wilderness, not to mention all the wildlife is, for me, a dream come true. Here is a shot of a pine marten I got not too far from my cabin. The early morning sunlight helped to enhance the scene. Thanks for looking and leaving a comment!

Techs:
Nikon D300s / 300mm f/4 + 1.4 TC
Double Processed RAW file (for highlight control and shadow detail)
1/125 Sec. @ f/5.6
ISO 400

Really nice capture, framing, and lighting. Interesting subject in a very natural setting.

Zack,

Very nice shot of an animal I understand is rarely seen, in the wild. I wish you had posted a large version, on my screen it looks as though it could take a little more lightening.

Nice pose. I like the setting you caught this guy in. I also would like to have seen a larger image. I think you could crop a bit off of the left side which would bring more focus on the martin IMHO. Thanks for sharing.

Lovely capture Zack. In this instance the clutter of branches works very well to draw the viewer's eye to the pine marten creating an nice intimate image. :toast:

Is it true they like the dense forest near the NE entrance to the park?

Nice job with the blend. When I first saw this on my iPad, I wasn't sure if it was too dark, but it looks better on my laptop... which probably means it'll look even better on my calibrated monitor at home.

I like the light you have on this martin. If this were a vertical (if you have enough pixels) I think the impact would be more dramatic. Neat capture, nonetheless.

Hello Zach

Pleasing Image with the interesting lighting. Lon mentioned Vertical if you had the pixels & I think this would bring your Eye to the Martin better & remove some branch BG. etc...

Thanks for sharing.

Nice lighting and exposure, the details are well rendered throughout. Excellent job of getting focus on a small, quick creature in such a tight environment. I agree the idea of a vertical is interesting.
