OK, I lied.

Well, I really did mean to get away from the hummingbird images, but I finally caught some in the flower garden yesterday. I really liked the wing position on this one, though I do wish the tail hadn't been obscured. It looks as if it were suddenly darting the head forward as there's a bit of motion blur in it, though not the body. The good news (for me) is that we're forecast to have a few nice days coming up and hopefully we'll get some morning sun that provides more opportunities in the garden.

1Div, 500mm f4 ISL + 1.4TC, Black Widow on RRs legs, f6.3, 1/800, Av mode with no compensation, iso 640. Processed in CS6 and cropped to 9.2 MP. Taken yesterday at 6:34 am.

Your comments and criticisms are always appreciated.

Thanks for looking,

Hello Dennis, at the first glance a little busy this image, but after looking longer I really came to appreciate it ! Lovely colors, and the fact that the bird is partly obscured makes it a non-standard HB image ! Well done, cheers, Hans

Dennis, I like this a lot. I really like the natural setting and the comp. A nice change from the typical hummingbird shot. I would probably clone the circle behind the bird.

It was hard for me to know what I would see when I looked at the thumbnail for this image. Now, looking at it and the larger image, all I can say is OMG!!!

Rather than try to articulate analytical elements of the composition, which speaks for itself, and loudly, let me just quote one of my favorite lines from Alexander Pope's poem Essay on Criticism when he was stating the essence of art as he saw it : "Life, force, and beauty must to all impart; At once, the source, and aim, and test of art."

Your image meets all of these criteria, and does so extremely well! :toast: :jump:

You had me at the purple! Somehow, with parts of the bird obscured, you still managed to pull off an excellent image! Beautiful light and setting for your hummer. I like how part of the bill is visible through the wing. Sharon

Great catch on this one, too, Dennis. There's enough action and environment to make up for the tail.

Cool shot Dennis, you get a real sense of the hummer working its way through a field from flower to flower. Perfect lighting - unfortunate about the tail, but the rest of the image is so strong, I don't find myself noticing it. Please don't apologize for sharing more of these great images.

Dennis, you are addicted. Slowly put down the camera and step away from the Hummingbird. I like the purple flower, but I too wish that one near the tail was gone. Nice work. :toast:

Hi Dennis
I really like way the bird is so focused on the flower. The eye also catches my attention... just peeking out over the wings.
Great job!

I like the environmental feel. The eye just peeping above the wing is super. I agree about the tail being hidden, but the environmental scene makes up for it. Nicely done.
