Young robin

I had been photographing this young robin with my SX50, and decided to use my T3i to compare results. The robin had moved a bit which allowed me to keep the wooden fence out of the image. Would like comments on the crop, should I take more off of the bottom?

Hi John,

This young Robin sure seems to hang around and does not seem to mind being photographed. I think I would have preferred less of a head turn. I like the dried out berries in the perch.

Regarding your question about cropping, I think I would try cropping away the busy part at the bottom to just below the small upwards pointing twig. And maybe clone out the partial berry at the LRC.

I'm not sure on what basis you wanted to compare the SX50 and T3i/70-300, but I am impressed by the details in the SX50 shot (small image).

John, I like the robin as is, except for the head, which is a bit soft. If I took anything off the bottom, maybe up to top of the cut off berry in the LRC. I would be more inclined to trim the top to below the large green OOF, top center. Further, I would take a bit off the left side and add canvas to the right to get the bird out of dead center.

Nice, John. Difficult to compare the two cameras from these images. The small version taken with the SX50 actually looks sharper. As to the crop, I like leaving a little room under the feet, so I'm fine with it this way.

If you're going for a crop, may I suggest a little off the top to just above that wonderful heart-shaped leaf. Then maybe just tidy up in the area below the perch. You've got a fine shot of good looking young'n there. Looks a little soft... more ss? or dof? Perhaps someone more expert than I can tell you which...
