Glaucous-winged Gull

Canon 1D-X, 300mm x 2.0TC, handheld
f5.6, 1/500, ISO200

Photographed at Seward, Alaska last night. Resurrection Bay in the background. 50% of full frame. Slight adjustments to levels. Usual sharpening drill.

The photo demonstrates the pluses and minuses of the 1D-X. Pluses: superb autofocus, excellent color fidelity, quite good glass. Minuses: loss of 4/3rds effective magnification, not Zuiko glass.

C & C, please. Thanks for looking.

A very good flight shot of this species Jim. I would add to pluses very good iso performance - I would be using a higher iso for bird photography with that body. :toast:

Hi Jim, since the Mk III, I've been shooting at ISO800 as my default; I think you should try this. Not having shot with the new Olympus equipment, I cannot compare the two, but I believe the Canon super-telephotos to be some of the best around.

I do like the wing position you got.

Jim,

Nice shot, is it possible to lighten the eye a little.
I agree totally with the comments regarding using higher ISO with this camera for me 800 is now standard,
As a long time fan of Zuiko lenses I agree with your comment.

Nice flight shot Jim- very cool wing position and good detail for the speed you used. I can't comment on the relative merits of the kit-I'm working with Brand X.

Nice job on getting this difficult flight shot with detail at 1/500 sec, way to go.
