Last night I posted the view of this little waterfall from the top. When I tried to shoot it from the bottom and more to the right, my tripod slipped off the rocks. I expected to find camera and lens in pieces after the 12-foot swan dive to the rocks below, but the 5D Mark II was still in one piece. My 24-105 did not fare so well, losing communication with the camera, so I switched to my 14mm. and tried this shot from a safer -- but wetter -- place closer to the falls. This is the shot with the least mist on the lens. Not exactly the shot I wanted, but at least I found out the camera still works. (The 24-105 is on its way back to Canon now.)

Canon 5D2
Pro-Optic 14mm.
1/10 sec. @ f/8; ISO 1250

Ouch.. As they say~No pain no gain.
I like this more than the previous capture but suggest maybe a little burn to the brighter area of trees above the top of the falls. :wavey:

Keep on shooting Wayne.. :toast:

Sorry to hear about the spill, but glad the 5D2 survived. I slipped in the Zion Subway last fall and dunked a rented 5D2 that wasn't so lucky. :(

I also prefer this capture to the previous one. The view angle of the other shot produced a horizontal waterfall, that just didn't "feel" right. I like this comp and the strong motion and leading line.

Oh boy Wayne, not a good thing, glad your camera survived anyway. Pretty scene indeed and I very much like the way you composed this, very nice color and exposure on the water. This one also looks very familiar to me, guess I'm going to view the Adirondacks through your eyes till I get back up in Fall. Beautiful work Wayne. Take care.

Not sure what the other vantage point you might have been going after, but this hits the spot for me. Excellent composition, Ideal shutter speed, and great processing. I think the brighter area, top middle, works good in conjunction with the mood of the image. I would not darken it at all. I would leave the entire image just as is.

Wayne,

Very sorry to hear about your lens, but certainly glad you didn't go down with it!

Great perspective and follow up image from your previous. I really get a good feel of the place. With this one, those ferns in the center make the image for me. Without them, my comment would be that I would wish that I could see the entire falls. But the ferns really strengthen this one. Great color and contrast, although if it were mine I might consider opening things up on the right side just a bit, but that's minor.

Well done.

Excellent comp Wayne. I also like the position of the ferns and the overall misty feel to your image.

Sorry to hear about the gear mishap Wayne. At least the camera survived! I might consider bumping up the contrast in the image just a bit.

Excellent comp and perfect shutter speed for the water flow.
