Al About the Hoodoos
by Paul DeCesare
I spent two hours shooting Bryce from one spot last October starting before the sun rose, and have gone over the images umpteen times trying to settle on the best catch of the day. I think it's this one, because ultimately, the Hoodoos are such a main feature at Bryce Canyon. This was shot across the canyon at 200mm on a FF. I've posted earlier versions of this on 500px but the crop wasn't quite right and the depth of detail was missing, and it was just too red. I think I'm fairly happy with this take. It's such a unique place and also one that's been photographed more times than the Milky Way I think, so getting a different take isn't all that easy.
C&C welcome & desired. Thanks!

6 commentsExcellent job isolating the spectacular features of this canyon. Of course it's been done, but I'd be wanting something like this too if I were to ever visit Bryce. I might think the red was pretty strong here, but then given the time of day and the fact I wasn't standing there, I can accept the color/saturation; it's not out of bounds by any stretch.
Small suggestion. It's more apparent in the larger version, but if mine, I would do a very slight crop off the top and left side to remove the dark edges. Not a distraction per se like it would be if the edges were bright, but still, you might consider the crop. It may not be something anyone else may notice though. No matter, this is still a beautifully seen and captured image from Bryce.
