Folks,

I have been continuing to work on the weaver ant colony, and with the monsoon rains, it is difficult get sun when I want it. Today was one of those lucky days when the setting sun was clear of the clouds, and shone direct on to the tree truck at about 45-50 degree angle. With the sun dropping below that would be direct on to the shade of the other trees. Here is one frame....Had metered manually on the ants and was directly into the backlight. Had all three extn tubes on my 70-200...

Have cloned out a could of other ant legs in the frame.. and have provided the screenshot of my CR2 file in the first comment to my post ..just in case any one had any queries on my exposure...

7D, 70-200 F4L

Thanks NPN for your support

Very nice, Balan. I really like the backlight with plenty of detail on the ant's body. That black BG and black perch with just the edge shown work well for me.

The backlighting really works well here, it's almost like an x-ray in terms of showing off details in the ant's body. Very well done.

Well, the light here is great. Nice job getting most of the ant sharp too... I think that's one of the biggest challenges when dealing with such narrow DoF in macro.
