Morning Sun Takes a Peek

Another from an October 2012 Bryce shoot, finally getting to process them. Once the sun popped up I started shooting towards the south end of the Canyon which gave me good side-lighting for a few moments. It's my first attempt at a darker scene with these random highlights accentuating the scene. Too dark? C&C Most welcome.

Shot from Bryce Point. Exif says 168mm, 1/125 sec, f/6.3, ISO 320. Reality says double processed RAW to deal with enormously wide histogram, lol.

the image has this kind of vignette-like dark, contrasty corners which i think are a bit too dark - but that may be just me. other than that, i really appreciate the detail visible throughout the scene and the beautiful warm light.

I agree with Jeremy for the most part, but Jeorg has a point. A little work on those corners might make this even better.Overall, a compelling image with great impact. Well done Paul! :toast:

I see what you mean about the corners (the black NPN-provided border I selected doesn't help either, lol). I used the Lens Correction tool to lighten the vignette... better?

And thanks for the feedback everyone, very much appreciated!

Paul,

What a difference just a little time makes! this is wonderful! I'll say it again, the light makes all the difference here. Excellent and somewhat intimate landscape from Bryce. the only minor nit would be that I would tone down the brightest highlights where it seems the light is literally burnt out on the edges of the formations. And maybe backing off the saturation in those specific areas especially the red, any maybe yellow. But the rest of the image without the sunlight is wonderful. Of course it's just a personal preference which often is just a difference of owning the image, working and processing it, vs. just a viewer who hasn't worked it nor familiar with the original.

A couple very fine tweaks and this will make a beautiful print.

Re-post is a definite improvement. Lots of rich detail and absolutely delicious light. This is beautifully done

The repost helps the dark corners. Otherwise, it has excellent detail and color. Superb work.

Wonderful scene and I think Lon has hit the nail on the head with his critique. Very minor stuff. In particular though, I think you've successfully captured the essence of Bryce in a non-conventional way.

A nice original take on Bryce. I prefer the repost but find the contrast a bit fierce especially in the darker tones.
