Bee Balm

Or Monarda didyma. The one clump in our garden is starting to bloom and I can never resist the neat looking flowers. We had light fog this morning, which mellowed out the rising sun a bit. This is side lit from the left by that sun.

5Diii, 180mm f3.5 macro, f32, 1/4 sec, iso 400, Av mode with -1/3 compensation. Processed in CS6. I screwed up in the field and had to rotate the image about 7 degrees ccw. This required adding a triangle after the crop which I did using content aware fill followed by some cloning. Taken this morning at 5:46 am.

Your comments and criticisms are very much appreciated.

Thanks for looking,

Dennis - Neat take on the Bee Balm - love the warm golden light on the leaves. I have not been successful so far in shooting one as background is always a problem for me where they grow.

One of the best I've seen of these with the excellent dof and pof chosen here. Fascinating structure in these. I had a variety of these at my last house and miss them blooming every year at the 4th of July like fireworks.

I also really like bee balm. You've done a great job of capturing detail in the flower and the leaves. I like your comp. which emphasizes those interesting flowers. The lighting is special.
