Just an ant

Photographed this ant and other small creatures in our backyard. The wind was very strong and gusting, which is why I used ISO 800 to get the higher shutter speed.

John - Very Cool. Love the look on the Ant's face and how sharply it has been rendered considering the windy conditions you mention !. The light greens from the foliage really help set the dark toned Ant apart.

You sure nailed the pof, John. I would have never guessed it was windy. Excellent sharpness and detail in the head and antennae. The pov/comp is excellent as well, and I like the way the red ant is rendered against the lime green plant. Well captured. :toast:

What a cool eye-to-eye view of this ant! Great job capturing his head in good focus, considering the conditions and his tiny size. The colorful plant he is on makes a nice contrast for viewing the ant.

... and a pretty small ant at that I bet! "Just" an ant? They are amazing critters, with very interesting behavior and social interactions. It's obvious that the SL1 has absolutely no trouble with ISO 800. You probably could have shot at even higher ISO if you needed to, but you didn't need that -- great focus in all the right places. Your composition adds interest, scale, and some really nice colors and textures.
