Another from my session at Seabeck. I liked the landing pose and the little clump of oysters that is its intended perch.

1Div, 500mm f4 ISL + 1.4TC, Black Widow on RRS legs, f6.3, 1/1250, iso 320, Manual exposure. Processed in CS6 and cropped to 10.6MP. Taken June 22nd at 7:29 am under sunny skies.

Your comments and criticisms are greatly appreciated.

Thanks for looking,

Wow. Way to go in capturing this shot, getting such good detail with the heron in motion.

Very nice detail Dennis, especially the larger view. The exposure is superb. Might go for a little more room on the left side if you have it available.

Nice, sharp and well exposed Dennis. Heron will have to do a balancing act to stay on that small perch. A very good capture. :toast:

Dennis,
Great action, well composed and excellent detail. This is a very difficult subject and BG to properly expose and Mr. Plank, you nailed it on this image. From the whites to the darkest shadows, the feather detail and the small wind ripples on the water’s foreground . . . Outstanding.

Very nice capture and I like the moody light. I wish the bird had a little more space to fly into on the left, but with those big wings that owuld have been a tough trick. Overall, really nice work Dennis.

Wonderful action shot - and amazing it was landing there ... Depending on the original image, I would try a landscape crop, but you must have had your reasons for a square I guess  . Great one Dennis ! Cheers, hans

Thanks for the comments. In retrospect, I'm not sure why I went with such a square crop-it seemed right at the time, though when I posted it, it looked tight on the left to me as well. Here's a repost with a more landscape format. I took just a bit off the top and left for this one.

Dennis, I think you could have split the difference, I like the detail of the closer cropped shot. I know everyone is a critic.
