Rufous Hummingbird

April 28, 2013 We have a greenbelt adjacent to our yard in Newport Beach, California. I purchased several plants that Hummingbirds like and left them in the pots. I move them on to the greenbelt and set up a patio chair. Invariably, they cooperate and give me a multitude of shots in a short period of time. One day I spent a few hours with my 18 year old granddaughter with her shooting this set up after it was organized. She is now hooked and asked for a camera and lens for HS graduation.

I neglected to state that I used the Nikon 900 flash and a better beamer.

Patrick: A very nice hummingbird image. Pose is great, nice wing blur, nice sharpness. All the exposure looks very nice with the exception of the bright green leaves on the left. The flash is pretty evident there. Easy fix with a curves or levels adjustment layer and a color range selection to limit the layer's effect to just those leaves.

What a wonderful way to spend time. Just watching would be fun but to get a great shot like this would make it even better.

Nice shot--I like the composition with the violet blue contrasting with the orange of the hummingbird.. Hummingbirds around my place are not very cooperative even though they are well fed. Thank you for posting.......................................Jim

A beauty Patrick, I had never noticed the little orange spot on top of the female's head before. Nicely composed and I like the wing blur :toast:
