Competing for a View

I know I'm posting these slightly out of order, but you don't care, right?

This was taken before my last post, and after the post, "Spring Forth". I didn't have much time to setup for shots, because I had guessed it wouldn't be a vibrant sunset (boy was I wrong). That's when I am happy I went scouting BEFORE I decided what kind of sunset it would be (and fail doing that). Needless to say, it was vibrant!

There was something I liked about the plants in the foreground that made me instantly think 'vertical image' (I did get some horizontal as well). The long plants seemed to be stretching upward, as if seeing who gets the best view of the sunset! I also was fortunate that the lake was fairly calm, as the clouds were streaming by overhead, at a fast pace.

Anyways, two RAW exposures blended for DynamicRange and DepthOfField in CS5.... Here's the details:

Canon 60d 10-22mm @ 22mm
ISO 100 --- f/11 --- tripod --- no filters

Comments/Critiques welcome, and View Large!

(title suggestions welcome, as always)

Hmmm. I'm irritating myself with that white border on the small version... Any thoughts?

Beautiful image Nathan. Great colors in the sky and reflection. I like the plants in the foreground framing the image and the very natural appearance. Nice control of the sun on the horizon also. Really nicely done.Border is a little distracting but not too bad.

A downright joyful image, Nathan. Great color and light and nice detail throughout. The border is fine. And, I'm enjoying the texture in the water from the wind ripples.

Pretty sunset scene. The white border doesn't bother me.

Nathan, I really like the color palette in this image with the transitions from warm to cool tones. I'm a little torn about the foreground foliage. On one hand it adds context to the photo but I find myself wanting to see more of the reflection and less of the foliage. But really, I'm just being picky with that comment. This is a beautiful image. :wavey:

Absolutely gorgeous scene, Nathan. The FG grasses do make a nice anchor and I love the reflection along with the drama in the sky. Awesome image. This is being super nitpicky; and it's probably just me because no one else mentioned it; but the lighter tree or bush on the shoreline on the right edge is a bit of a eye magnet. BTW the white border looks fine to me.

Thanks for the comments/input! If I print this, I'll certainly tweak it a bit and darken those branches...

Lovely, peaceful scene. Border is not a distraction for me and the vertical composition seems just right.

I agree that the plants in the foreground add a nice sense of perspective. The sunset and it's reflection are terrific. The tiny white border doesn't bother me and it does set the image off nicely from the black background. My minor nit, is to wonder how this would look with about half of the foreground veggies cropped.
