Luna Moth

I visited the Nature Conservancy's Nan Weston Preserve near Manchester Michigan hoping to snare some odonate photos. A cloudy and wet morning kept the dragonflies in hiding. So I ventured into the dense woods and found 2 lime green tails protruding from a clump of red maple leaves. Looking at the back side of the clump revealed a nice luna moth. K5 IIs 300mm f4 set to f10, iso 640, fill flash, 1/200sec exposure....................Jim

Nice find and capture, Jim. Luna moths are amazing to see and make impressive photo subjects. The top down view of this one shows has good detail and, of course, the leafy branch shows how it leaf-like it looks and how it blends in. My only suggestion would be to consider burning the bright leaves in the bg along the right side (top, middle, and bottom) so they don't compete with the star.
