Common Loon with Chicks

Canon7D, 400mm 5.6lens,1/400sec,f7.1,ISO200. approx 70% of original, taken from a boat in evening sunlight.
Everything is late this year because of weather. These may be the some of the earliest hatches in Ontario.
Great that we only have to upload one file. I'm going to start posting again.

Very nice, Roger.
Do you have any chance to add more space to the left?

Love the closeup, the colors and the tack sharp eye. We all too often only want to post complete bird shots. This portrait is very pleasing. :wavey:

Wonderful shot with great detail and sharpness. The water and background reflection are just awesome. Being it a 70% crop I assume the 100% version does not show the bird in full length ? At any rate a hammer :toast: :toast: , Hans

Thanks, everyone. I have the whole loon, but I preferred a close crop to show the chicks' faces in detail. I may change it to show the full reflection, though.

I would like to see the whole loon as well. I don't have a problem at al with portraits though. But I am wondering why if you were going to crop as a portrait, you chose to include the entire chick body? My guess is that is what you want the viewer to focus on? With that said, wondering what it would look like if you cut off the chicks bodies also and did just a head portrait on al to focus more on the intimacy between mother and chicks?

Roger, You captured my heart in this one...My bucket list has this one very high priority...Very nice eye, detail and expressions on the peeps, also the reflection and background make for a great image...Only thing that might make it perfect would be a little less crop, not cutting the back of the body and maybe a little more frame to the left in the direction she is looking...Again very minor and a beautiful image!
