Suddenly I have a bunch of these little cuties in my backyard. I normally just see a few. Really hot here so I am surprised to see anything.

Canon 7D
Canon 70-200 II
Sigma 1.4 TC
Canon Speedlite 580 EX II fill flash

125 @ f6.3 ISO 100

C&C always welcome. Hope everyone had a great 4th!

A nice head turn and detail from the chickadee. I recommend 3 things I think might improve this already excellent image: 1) Crop to about a 4:5, maybe a quarter of the crop from the left and the rest from the right; 2) Lighten the BG selectively about 10% to make the black cap stand out better; and 3) clone out one of the catchlights from the eye.

Good use of the fill flash, btw.

This is a lovely shot. Philip gave you lots of good advice. Cannot improve on that.

You must have been really close to get that kind of detail with a 200mm lens, LeRoy. Nice pose and a cool perch and bg.

Very nice,LeRoy. Looks like your bird has been raising a kid to look that scruffy. The bird is nicely lit, but if it were mine I might select that branch and bring it down just a bit.The flash over-lit it a bit and it dominates the photo.
