Drinking Her Dry

For the past few days I've been wandering our local urban trails looking for white-tailed deer fawns, and other than a few fleeting glimpses, I wasn't having much luck.

Yesterday I spotted this doe who was grazing on a hillside some distance off, when suddenly out of the bushes to her right came this cute little fawn. They sniffed each other briefly and then the fawn began feeding. Just as it did, another fawn came out of the bush followed by a third one, all going through the same recognition routine.

While this shot is perhaps not my best, it is representative of one of the more special ones.

Comments, critique and suggestions always welcome.

Tech Stuff: Canon 1D4, 100-400mm lens @ 400mm, f/5.6, 1/1000, ISO 400, Hand Held. Spot Metering, Manual Exposure. Significantly cropped.

Wow Rick, what a find. I suspect you will be able to find this doe feeding often with 3 to feed. Good photo of the event.

That is not a photo you see every day; great find and a good photo of the occasion Rick.

I agree Rick, it's a very special image.
I've spent a lot of time observing the WT on our land, and over the years I've never seen three trying to nurse at the same time..
Well done :toast:

This title and scene reminds me of an old Sci-fi movie c=from the 80's called Lifeforce.
Nice moment captured Rick. Not a common shot.

Hi Rick. You sure were fortunate to actually find just what you were looking for and even got them nursing - very cool. Technically all looks pretty good, but the larger view does show some tell tale signs of the large crop. I might try cropping a little more from the bottom and add a little to the top if you have it.
