Lady's Tresses

So far as I know, this is the only orchid to venture out into our local prairies. While quite wet in the rainy season, they dry out very quickly when the rains cease. These have just started blooming and I've run across two on our property thus far. The first was a bit over the hill, but this one was pristine. The scientific name for these is Spiranthes romanzoffiana (say that one three times fast).

5Diii, 180mm f3.5 macro, tripod. Taken at f13, 1/320, av mode with no compensation, iso 800. Processed in CS6. Full frame. Taken July 8th at 7:54 pm.

Your comments and criticisms are most appreciated.

Thanks for looking,

Spiranthes are difficult subjects, but you did very well with this one...................................Jim

I am not familiar with Lady's Tresses, Dennis. Good photo of this one in nice light and against a good bg.

Very nice lines and curves in this flower, Dennis. The darker background and light make the flower stand out. Very good techs. :toast:

Dennis - I always like mildly textured backgrounds like you have achieved here. The soft directional light on the subject gives it somewhat of a 3D effect and helps it stand out so nicely.

Simple but effective frame.

The perfect bg for a lovely plant, Dennis. Love the detail, and the centred comp seems just right here.

We had some of these (or a close relative) in our yard when we first moved in and I think they're wonderful, sadly the grass crowded them out after only a couple of years and I haven't found any others locally. This is a fine catch with nice soft lighting and clean background.
