Przewalski's Horse (C)

I took this early in the morning many years ago of part of the Przewalski horse herd at the Minnesota Zoo. This is the only true wild horse and is an endangered species. Recovery efforts have resulted in re-introduction of these horses into some of their original range. The first colt born at the zoo is on the left hand side of the image.

Scan from a 6x4.5 exhtachrome slide.

Mamiya 645 150mm Mamiya lens.

I hope that zoos continue to be involved in preservation of species and reintroductions like this. The photo documents the habitat available to the horses quite well. Horses, being horses they have their heads down and eating, would have been nice to see a few looking in your direction and necks erect. I would suggest cropping some off the right side, increase the darks slightly and add a little more sharpening in post.

John,

Great to see this magnificent and largely unknown animal, around 15 years ago when we lived in France we rented out a large field to a local hore lover and had the pleasure of having one of thes in our life. Unfortunately after an extremely cold winter it succombed to a lung infection.

It is a pity you could not get closer, and I wish I had some images of "ours"

Nice habitat shot John, one cannot see this was shot in a zoo despite the wide view. The water with the reflections add interest. I would be tempted to crop the ground in the BLC out so that the FG is only water.

After reading the suggestion, I agree with Vincent about a slight crop off the bottom. I think ideally the horses would have offered a pose without all having heads down feeding. The reflections are a nice enhancement.
