Sally Lightfoot Crab

I recently returned from a photo cruise of the Galapagos Islands. One of my favorite subjects to photograph were these colorful crabs, which seemed even more so when situated on the gray lava rock.

Would you crop this image any differently? I took a bit of OOF rock off the bottom and just a touch off the left side.

Should I pull out any more detail in the dark rock crevase in the LLC???

Critiques and comments are very welcome and appreciated. Thanks for looking!

The crab is quite beautiful; the colors really pop against the gray rock. I'm not sure I'd bring out more detail in the rock, it might detract from the crab. I might crop more off the right OOF rocks, it is perhaps a bit distracting in the peripheral vision. But as is, this is very nice. :toast:

I loved these guys too - one was actually my very first WP on NPN almost 10 yrs ago.
This is a nice pose, true colours, and nice detail in the right. Crop/comp look good to me.
I'd agree not to bring out more detail in the crevasses - the other rocks are fine.
Very nice image!

Carol, you could experiment with lightening that dark corner, evening out the exposure might just add more attention to the crab rather than having our attention sucked into the black hole. The photo looks great as is, love the colors, the pose, everything really but no harm in playing with the corner.

Since this is a portrait of the crab, I don't think the detail in the dark area would be that important. In fact, my suggestion would be to darken the rock area. which would then showcase the crab even more.

Carol,
I agree with everybody else that little if anything needs to be done here, the only thing I could suggest would to perhaps to take a little from the left to make it slightly less central :toast:

The LP looks excellent Carol, very nice!
I think it's fine as posted. But if you have the pixels to waste, guess I'd crop some from the left & top to put more emphasis on your subject. Wish it was mine :toast: :toast:
