Two little daisies

This was taken about 2 seconds before I learned there was a black bear 25' behind me that wanted to get to the river I was facing. I had no time to do any reshooting.

This is my last picture pre-real camera equipment, which arrives tomorrow. I am looking for composition feedback primarily. Don't be shy - if I wanted "likes" I'd post this on Facebook.

I like your composition Diana, maybe a tad less depth and a higher POV, but I like how you handled the harsh light (and bear). Enjoy the new equipment.

The choice of the two flowers and the position of them on the frame is very nice Diana.

I however feel that the edge of the river cutting across the frame separates the flowers and disrupts the composition. The light color of the bank adds to the distraction. If it was possible, a higher point of view, so there is only blue river in the background, would have kept the comp cleaner. A higher POV would also show the top of the top flower which would be nice to include.

So, will you be posting bear pictures next?

Good Luck with the new gear!

Diana: I'm on the fence with this one. I like the general comp but agree with using a higher POV. The sunlit BG is a bit strong for my tastes. Looking forward to your work with the new gear. >=))>

I find low point of view on the two daisies interesting and unconventional. You show enough of the lower daisy to make them identifiable, which I think is good. I so think there's too much going on in the background, with the soft but recognizable red flowers, a few grasses on the left, and the river plus logs plus trees plus mountain in the distance. My thought would be to look for a different angle or other daisies where you could get only the red flowers and green forest as the background or a green forest & mountains background. Either of those would give the flowers some context. From the thumb, I was expecting to see a swimming pool in the background....from your story, that's clearly not correct.

Thank you for taking the time to comment on a point and shoot photo. As I play with my new toy (DSLR and macro lens) I realize how much more I can do with shots and am grateful for the feedback from this community so I can incorporate suggestions in future photo shoots.

I could see some pp work to reduce the brightness of the background as mentioned. I do like the over/under comp concept, but agree that maybe a touch higher would work slightly better. Still, a very nice image.
