Liquid Sand + Repost

I figured I would post one more photo before I head out for my travels over the next month and a half. Gonna put lots of mileage into my new hiking boots and camping gear!

This is one of my older shots taken out at Bandon during a really purdy sunset with epic puffy clouds filtering out of the back side of a weather front. There were a lot of people on the beach, so it took much work to find a shot with no one blocking the view.

I'm curious what you guys think of this composition. It breaks a lot of "rules", but does it work?

Thanks for looking! Have a great rest of summer! :wavey: :wavey:

I think the composition works due to the symmetry. I also like the subtle lines in the foreground. Nice light and beautiful color as well.

Rules are meant to be broken. :) And I think you broke them in a good way. Only nitpick I have are the lens flare artifacts on the spire in the middle.

The composition works for me, as do the wonderful skies and colors. Unfortunately, the large area of overexposed sun is dead center and immediately grabs my eye.

Beautiful sky and reflection in this Johan and it suits the 50-50 split for balance. I agree with John and Ted about the flare and extremely bright center. But very nice as is.

Beautiful color in the water and reflection, also in parts of the sky. The hot spot where the sun tops the horizon is a distraction but the rest of this is so nice, I can live with it

Definitely works for me! The centered sun is a bit of a minus, but a very small bit.

Here's a quick re-edit done on my laptop with PS Elements 6 with just the JPG file. Hopefully it's enough to get a better idea of the scene! I'll need the RAW file in PS CC on my calibrated machine to fully recover the highlight area properly though.

What a beautiful and dramatic image, Johan. The foreground is exploding with energy and in that regard contrasts nicely with the sky. I really like this a lot. :toast: Chet

The repost works much better, and I think a balance between the two should be your final result. Lovely color and the reflections make it very special.

I like the way the whole scene sort of explodes from the center. The brighter one actually accentuates that but the toned down hot spot is an improvement otherwise.

Pretty incredible light and color show. The bright area in the center doesn't really even bother me, but if it could be toned down any more I'd go for it.

This is a beautiful scene, regardless of rules, and the repost is far better than the original version, in my opinion. Eliminating that hot sun area allows the eyes to gaze around the rest of the image, and it is all just gorgeous.

Fabulous reflections here Johan. Comp feels very nice to me. WB is quite cool, but I do like dynamics of the color.
