Gentle Beauty

My wife and I went to the beach (Gulf islands National Seashore) yesterday in between rainstorms. I concentrated in the marshy areas because the light was rather dull. The rain created some super saturated colors, especially the greens. I had to reduce the saturation in this image quite a bit in order to make it look semi-normal and it's still quite saturated. I added a slight Orton effect to soften the scene somewhat.

Please view the LARGE version for better detail.

D2x w/35-70 @ 70mm

Capture One 6 for RAW conversion, CS4

Hope you enjoy. Comments and critiques always welcomes and appreciated. Thanks for looking.

Excellent capture here, Bill. I love the soft feeling it portrays. The one isolated white flower is the key character and a main focal point, but the painterly scene is wonderful to look at all the way around. :toast:

I like the mood of this - although it is cliche to say this really does have the look and feel of a painting to me. Just thinking out loud - did you take any using a wider aperture for shallow DOF? I would be curious to see how that would look - perhaps a bit too surreal for what you are going for but it would be interesting to see how it would look.

Thanks all for the comments so far.

Brian - I shot some limited DoF images of other subjects but not this one. Don't know why I didn't.

Stan - weird is as weird does!

I really like this Bill, especially the placement of the white flower. The Orton effect looks just right. Brian didn't say it but I will..... Very beautiful and very painterly!

I like your dof choice to bring the attention to the grasses in the foreground, and the great greens. There is also a rhythm to it I like. Beautiful work.

Man, I didn't know how delicate and nice this was going to be from the thumb. Really beautiful, and well detailed. Are you channeling your inner Overacker? I mean that as a compliment in the highest regard!

Bill,

You have such a knack for finding the subtle and taking it to the sublime. This is outstanding!

This has turned out really well, Bill. The rich colors and the softness courtesy of the Orton application make for a terrific statement. Sutble but powerful. I love it.
