Bambi Lives..

We live in the Hill Country of Central Texas, rural setting. Last week this fawn caught my attention with its persistent cries, heard all the way inside our office. I followed the sounds west to the barbed wire that borders our land. There I found this little one entangled in the wire unable to free itself, with the mother nearby. So I cut it loose. It seemed OK, just badly shaken with only minor cuts.

Sadly, it's an all too common occurrence here. Most often the little ones will panic & exhaust themselves quickly. And in this heat they do not last long. Or they become an easy meal for the numerous predators here.. In the 19 years I've lived here, I've seen barbed wire entanglement many times. When a full sized deer gets caught up, it's not a pretty sight. And most whitetail deer that live to maturity show multiple scars from their encounters..

Barbed wire is not a friendly fencing material. Well documented, Howard.
