Pinnacles #4

Here's my final post from my recent trip to Western Australia's Pinnacles Desert region. For this one obviously I've tried shooting directly into the sun. I've blended two images here. Does this work OK?

I really like the picture, but a bit more detail in especially the lower corners would be an improvement for me.

Truly beautiful composition with very nice light. As Roel says in my monitor the lower corners are dark.

The blend looks good from what I can tell. Whether it works depends on the mood you want to convey. Personally, I would like to see a little more of the pinnacles on the left and right. I suppose from the backlight, though, we would expect some areas to be in silhouette. But my curiosity is killing me.

Thanks for comments, they're really appreciated and I agree about the dark corners but I figured to allow much more detail there would look unnatural due to the source of the light. Be interested to hear further thoughts, and I may play around with it in the next day or so.Thanks again.

For a two exposure blend, the DR looks pretty low. Were you not able to get more detail in the shadows and recover the highlights around the sun further? This looks like an image that would be possible with one exposure, but I don't know the capabilities of the d300 and this does look like a VERY high DR scene. That being said, I think if you could get some more detail in the shadows, and maybe not be SO blown out around the sun, it would help a lot. The blue in the upper left corner feels a bit odd too. I guess it's looking green because the overall warmth that the image was given. The composition is really cool, and it's a killer scene. I think with some more work, it's a really great photo.

Works for me. The shapes of the pinnacles are interesting enough to leave as silhouettes so I don't mind the darkness here.

Neale, I agree the shapes are very interesting and I especially enjoy the warm glow you captured in this scene. The highlighted edges of the clouds also looks very nice.
