Chasing Shadows

Lencois Maranhenses Sand Dunes, Brazil.

Tropical clouds race across the sky throwing light and shadows over the ridges and accenting the valleys of the vast dune field.

Here is a real time video I took at the same time that shows how dramatic the light changes can be in this area!

Thanks for the great commentary on my other posts from here!

Mike,

I have seen other photos you have posted of this place in the past year. This place delivers HUGE!! Absolutely amazing how the light is so different throughout the scene! I am planning to get down to SA probably in 2014. This a must place to see...

A small crop from the bottom would be the way to go IMO.

Amazing

The lighting here is really wonderful, Mike! So much depth. For me the balance is slightly better with a bit cropped off the bottom - otherwise the large space seems to draw my eyes away from the distant illumination.

Mike, That is some amazing light and very impressive image! I like your comp a lot but I can see cropping some of the bottom as Floris mentioned. Beautiful Image! :toast:
The changing light in the video was so cool to watch. Thanks!

Superb comp, color like jewels, and an exotic location. A perfect combination for a stunning image. This place is pure magic, and your series from here is the same.
Is this a still capture from the video? If so, would you care to tell what equipment you used for the video? :toast:

Hi Morris, no this is not a still from the video but it was taken only a few seconds before it. The video and stills were taken with a Canon 5D Mk II. A friend of mine suggested that I attach a GoPro to the tripod leg and film video at the same time- I may do that in the future! Thanks everyone for all of the great commentary. I will consider the bottom crop also.

I am still in awe of this remarkable place Michael. Love the simplistic patterns and the dappling of light that rides the dune waves.

Wow, another stunner from this amazing location Mike! Fantastic light. I like your comp, but also agree a crop up from the bottom to shape a pano would be nice also.
